Living in Harmony with Earth: Small Steps, Big Changes

Written by "Year" from Grade 12 at KUS

Whether intentionally or unintentionally, we have all played a part in harming our planet. Often, we overlook the negative consequences when something benefits us directly. This negligence, even within our own homes, contributes to the Earth's deterioration. While some human activities have positive outcomes, environmentalists argue that our overall actions cause more harm than good.

With our growing knowledge, we have learned to utilize resources more efficiently than in the past. However, this advancement has also contributed to the Earth's deteriorating state. During the Industrial Revolution, numerous inventions transformed our lives for the better. However, this progress also led to a rise in Earth's temperature, impacting the ecosystem and overall well-being. Even seemingly insignificant acts, such as driving to the supermarket, can have a far greater impact than we realize. Since most modern vehicles rely on fossil fuels, a non-renewable resource, air pollution is worsening.

Despite the damage we have caused, we have been striving to alleviate the problem. Many individuals have dedicated their careers to improving the environment, establishing animal sanctuaries and organizing forest plantation projects worldwide. With the aid of advanced technologies, the severity of environmental and pollution issues is gradually decreasing. Also, improved healthcare practices have enabled wildlife to remain in their natural habitats instead of zoos, promoting their health and longevity.

While we have made efforts to establish sustainable living practices, our attempts to improve the Earth often have more negative consequences than positive ones. Ideally, industrial and environmental improvements should occur simultaneously. If we can dedicate the same effort to developing new technologies, we should also be able to care for our planet effectively. This approach holds a brighter future for the Earth and all its inhabitants.
