Yesterday, I found myself at a bustling event organized by IDP, held at the vibrant Samyan Mitr Town. The purpose? To guide and inspire students preparing to tackle the formidable IELTS exam. It was a day filled with excitement, eager faces, and a dash of the unexpected.
This expo was no ordinary gathering; it brought together prominent schools and institutions, offering a wealth of information on the IELTS test. The crowd was diverse, a sea of students, and even their parents, gathered to glean insights about the test's intricacies.
In a stroke of pride and humility, I represented WSC as one of the chosen schools tasked with shedding light on the writing segment of the exam. The conference room could accommodate only 170, yet over 200 enthusiastic individuals crowded in. Among them were not only locals but also foreign participants, adding spice and diverse perspectives to our workshop. Some were so eager to learn that they willingly stood for the entire hour.
In my session, I provided a broad overview of the writing section, aware that time was fleeting. My focus? Unearthing the common pitfalls students face while striving for higher IELTS scores, all while motivating them to enhance their overall communication skills. I emphasized that writing isn't solely about technique but also about having a story to share—a personal connection. I urged them to start jotting down daily experiences that stirred their emotions.
What warmed my heart was the presence of many familiar faces—my past and current students. The workshop became an interactive haven where hands shot up eagerly, voices chimed in confidently, and opinions flowed freely.
I can't guarantee that the information I imparted will guarantee higher scores, but one thing is certain—I ignited their inspiration. They now see English as a tool not just for the test but for their future endeavors. As the day concluded, I couldn't help but reflect on the words of Nelson Mandela, who once said, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." It's moments like these that remind me of the transformative power of education.
💯
Well done Zack, you've developed leaps and bounds since the advent of your career way back when I originally met you. Just make sure you don't burn out from over-working on too many projects. Take a break every now and again.
