Beware of the food you eat: A Sensory Journey

Written by Da

The article's title probably gave the topic away, portraying food as dangerous and unhealthy. No, it isn't. Maybe you need to seek something more profound and compelling. I suggest you read before you eat.

As the cliché goes, "Appearances are deceptive." So, the smell is the very first thing I take into account when deciding whether or not to consume a certain dish. The sense of smell is both informative and symbolic. If you've ever experienced flatulence, you understand its impact. And just as you carefully select your favorite perfume, food can also be judged through its aroma. So, be prepared.

The importance of perceiving things as they appear to the naked eye cannot be overstated. Polished dishes and attention to detail are obvious indicators. Merely by looking at a meal, one can gauge its freshness and appeal. The effort and time required to cook a single dish, especially for someone special, deserve appreciation. So, be observant.

Next, you must feel the food before you can taste it. Close your eyes and try to recollect the moment when the flavors first touched your tongue. Regardless of its texture, spend time savoring this small yet enduring moment. Crispiness, especially in dishes like crispy pork, is my favorite sensation. And I must say, one bite is never enough. So, be fulfilling.

The sense of taste is the most subjective of the five. As the old adage goes, "variety is the spice of life." If I had your attention, I would entice you to explore every imaginable human taste, from sweet to salty, sour, and beyond. Just because bitterness in life can be unpleasant, it doesn't mean that bitter beverages are inherently hazardous or unpalatable. Although everyone has their own set of tastes, opinions, and emotions, it doesn't mean you can't venture into trying something new. So, be open-minded.

Hearing, as the final sense, is the most reliable. While the heart may occasionally deceive, everyone knows that the body never does. When your stomach starts to rumble, that's the moment to satisfy your cravings and give in to your desires for the day. So, be ready.

What I mean is, instead of "Beware," I want you to think of it as "Be aware..."
